Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using BabyName at babyname.ie (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time; continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of Service
BabyName is a free, web-based tool that lets two partners independently swipe through baby names. When both partners like the same name, it is recorded as a match. The Service requires no account, app download, or payment.
Each swiping session is identified by a short 6-character share code. Your identity within a session is a randomly generated anonymous identifier stored in your browser — it is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose — discovering and matching baby names with a partner. You must not:
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service using automated means.
- Use bots, scripts, or other automated tools to generate swipes or sessions.
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service or its infrastructure.
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any technical measures we use to protect the Service.
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, its servers, or related systems.
We reserve the right to block or terminate access for anyone who violates these rules.
4. No Warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. You use the Service at your own risk.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, BabyName and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of swipe history, or loss of matched names. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed €10 (ten euros). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (such as liability for fraud or personal injury caused by negligence).
6. Intellectual Property
All content on the Service — including the BabyName name and brand, the website design, user interface, and software — is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
The baby name data displayed in the Service is compiled from publicly available sources. Individual names are not owned by us, but the selection, curation, and presentation of the name database is our original work. You may not reproduce or redistribute the name database without our prior written permission.
7. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (for example, links to name-meaning references). These links are provided for convenience only. We have no control over third-party content and accept no responsibility for it. Visiting a third-party site is at your own risk and subject to that site's own terms and privacy policy.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Service.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Ireland, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland. If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also have rights under the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence.
